Educational Gathering
Bees and Beekeeping
Edgewood Village presents Bees and Beekeeping, an in-person educational gathering with
Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban
, long-time resident of Edgewood and Professor Emerita in the Department of Anthropology at Rhode Island College, who is also a beekeeper and a beekeeping educator.
Carolyn has become an expert on bees and their contribution to the environment. She reminds us that bees are not aggressive, but defensive and that it will be safe for visitors to stand beside the three hives that are in her back yard (chairs may be brought if needed). She will provide us with the basics of hive sociology, the function of the queen and will describe the role of the worker bees, 90% of whom are female. She will also describe the equipment for honey extraction. Registration is required and is limited to 15 participants.
The Village Common relies on donations to offer our programs. This event is free to attend, but we thank you for any contributions you choose to give. Click on this button to donate.
