Demystifying Elder Law
Elder Law Attorney Doug Emanuel (of Chace Ruttenberg & Freedman, LLP) will review many important aspects of elder law, including important documents to have on hand (powers of attorney, advance directives, HIPAA authorization, etc.), Medicaid planning, and the possibility of guardianship.

Aging Life Care manager Dianna Shaw will discuss the role of an aging life care manager (including home assessments, medical/cognitive diagnoses, plans for future care needs and/or housing, and advocating for you and your family members).

Bios:
  • Doug Emanuel: Doug is a partner in and of Chace Ruttenberg & Freedman, LLP, with offices in Providence and Westerly. Doug is a member of the firm's Trusts, Estate Planning & Administration Group and advises the firm’s clients on estate planning needs and considerations, long-term asset protection, Medicaid planning, probate practice and procedure and trust administration. In addition, he has served as chair of the Rhode Island Bar Association's New Lawyers Committee. Back in his youth, he was recognized as a "Rising Star" in general litigation. Doug is a recognized Rhode Island Super Lawyer and is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell.t
  • Dianna Shaw: Dianna is a Licensed Assisted Living and Nursing Home Administrator, Dementia Care Expert, and Certified Care Manager. She works with Older Adults and their families to navigate the often confusing senior care options. She attended college in Boston and has many initials after her name. When not working, she volunteers as a subject matter expert with the Barrington Village and Rhode Island Meals on Wheels.
