About Us
Our History
Several years ago, a few Burrillville residents organized a group of volunteers to provide rides, do errands, and deliver groceries to older adults who needed assistance. A pilot program with The Village Common of RI was begun, with the aim of becoming an official "Village" within the organization if the program proved successful. Unfortunately, the pandemic occurred soon thereafter, prolonging the process of becoming a fully-functioning Village. Finally, we achieved our goal and became the fifth Village within The Village Common of RI in early June 2023.
Our Organization
Several Burrillville residents form the steering committee of the Burrillville Village: Darin Collins and Shirley Taylor (co-chairs), Jim Alix (secretary), Dennis Anderson, Andrea Hall, Saima Kane, Donna Landry, Tom Tatro, and Matt Trimble.
Becoming A Member
The Burrillville Village is a membership organization. We are not a social service agency that charges a fee for every service provided, but rather, we are volunteers helping our neighbors by providing rides, doing errands, and helping with small chores. Though we enlist volunteers, there nonetheless are costs in maintaining an organization like The Village Common of RI. Dues, therefore, are required for membership, but the amount depends on your ability to pay (for more information, see Membership.) It is our hope that the membership fee is never a barrier to joining our Village.
