About this event
To visit Linden Place (built in 1810) is to experience two centuries of American history. Long before it appeared in the movie The Great Gatsby, this exceptional example of Federal architecture was the dramatic stage for one family's multi-generational journey from the dark days of the slave trade through the boom times of the Industrial Age. Beyond being the seafarers responsible for Bristol's initial prosperity and later financial decline, they ended up captaining some of the country's most dynamic industries. Along the way, they hosted presidents, married into a world-famous theatrical family, and collected a wide array of treasures, which are now on display in the museum. (Linden Place/Historic house museum and arts center). We will go on a special tour led by docent Lynn Smith, who is an expert on Bristol slave-trade connections, and this talk will focus primarily on that history. Cost: $10 (funds also available through Sunshine Fund if needed).
Please park on the street nearby. If registration is full, we will take a waiting list.
A Sunshine Fund is now available for members and volunteers that enables attendance or participation in a program, event, celebration or performance when the cost would be an impediment. Individuals should contact Executive Director Caroline Dillon via email:
