Take a Break – Respite Care

Respite care provides temporary relief for caregivers from the ongoing responsibility of caring for an individual, of any age, with special needs. Respite care comes in many forms, from help in performing necessary care tasks to a paid or volunteer caregiver staying with your loved one while you work, attend to your own needs, or just take a break.
Presenters:
Hector Munoz, Coordinator of the CareBreaks Program, Catholic Social Services of RI. Hector has worked in Elder Services for 24 years and is currently the coordinator of the CareBreaks Program, a statewide program offering assistance in paying for respite care. Hector will explain how the CareBreaks program works, who is eligible to participate and how to apply for assistance.
Paula Dunne, MSW Recently retired from Catholic Social Services, CareBreaks. Paula has had a lifelong, 40 plus year career in social services. She has been a case manager for elders and their families, the Division Director of Case Management at West Bay Community Action, and most recently has provided support and assistance in the CareBreaks program. Paula will share her experiences with family caregivers, their sometimes reluctance to take a break, and the benefits and importance of caring for the caregiver!
